Why are people so against Jesus Christ

Hi there,

I have been a Christian for 4 years now I have come from a life of smoking, drinking and drug abuse, after I came to church and found Jesus Christ for my self my life started to make sence I have been able to give up all the things that were doing me harm, I have found my wife, and made some fantastic friends. If some one has they cure for a life threating disease then you would think that people would jump at the oportunity to take it. If anyone can shead some light on this matter then please respond.

Finding God and getting to know Jesus is a decision that each person has to make for themselves, with God’s leading… we Christians could preach all day, live the perfect example, and do everything we know how to in order to try to get them to accept Jesus as their saviour, and it still may not work. But it is good to try!

I think a big problem is that people see the church as overly conservative, when, in fact, Jesus was a radical liberal for his day. When people hear that churches want to shut down sex shops and such, they close their mind, and I can understand why - you can be a perfect Christian and still shop at Club X, or you could live the perfect “Christian” life, going to church on Sunday, giving, etc, but if you don’t know Jesus, you’re going to the same hell as murderors.

I myself have very liberal views compared to what most would normally associate with Christianity… but I base my views not on what the church dictates, but on what I have learned from the Bible, taking into account its historical context, and what I have learned from believing in and listening to Jesus.

People love the enjoyable things in life, and essentially, they think that the church is there to try to take them away when it shouldn’t be the case. After all, Jesus came so that we may “have life, and have it to the full.” He doesn’t expect anything impossible from us, since he “desires mercy, not sacrifice”. Once people know that Christianity isn’t synonymous with hardcore right-wing conservatism and giving up everything they enjoy, I’m sure more people will be willing to open up to God’s message.

There are many different ways to navigate a good life, religion is only one. I am not against Jesus Christ, I just do not believe and despair at the havoc and persecution wreaked in His name as I do the havoc and persecution wreaked in the name of any religion or belief system. Religion has been used as an excuse for evil things to be done for millenia, is it any wonder that those of us on the outside shake our heads a little when folks try to convert us?

I am happy for you finding your way, good luck with the rest of your journey.

Tell me an adult that believes in Father Christmas or the Easter Bunny, and I’ll consider believing in a fictious being too!

Having said that, everyone needs to believe in something, and its great that you can place your hope in to something to make you feel stronger. But your life is better because YOU made it better - so take responsibility for the good that YOU are doing for yourself!

I think it is that people want total control of their own lives and giving your life to Jesus means giving up that control. Those of us that are Christians know that when He is in control then that is really living. All you have to do is look at society and see that more and more people are wanting, what they call, more freedom but they get locked into something that has no meaning and yet stilll contols their life. I constantly look around a wonder how people think that this world just happened and that no one is in control. As for Jesus - He is the one who makes a relationship with the almighty possible. Keep asking the questions like you have asked and you will discover what you have to do to help people change their attitude. We are the only way people will see Jesus so we have to look at ourselves to understand the answer to your question.

    Merry Meet,

Most people aren’t against Christ, it is my understanding that people don’t take to prosletysing too well, and also for many people giving their lives up to an unseen force is without logic, i myself have been a born again Christian, and i understand the reasoning behind your beliefs, but i am Wiccan now, and believe that all people have their own truth, and their own faith, no one can say what is right or wrong, and it is not that through faith disease cannot be healed, it can, i have witnessed it myself, in many cultures, it is not exclusively Christian. And as much as people are going to try to burn me for this, Christianity, Islam, and Hebrew faiths come from the same place, and are all as intolerant as each other, and of the many cultures around the world, they are nearly the only faiths that believe in only one deity, your conviction to give up smoking, drinking and rugs is something to be admired, but i woudl not attribute it to something “GOD” has done to/for you, it is something that you yourself have done, through thought and focus, and the supportive environment of a church, it is simply that your focus on life after death has given you the ability to ignore current cravings of flesh, something that many cultures teach.

Merry Part, and Merry Meet again, Lord Kulganis

I don’t think everyone is AGAINST Jesus Christ, its just everyone has a right to their own beliefs. For atheists and agnostics maybe its a tad difficult to believe in words written thousands of years ago. plus i agree with one of the statements that religion, in any guise, has been used as justification for terrible things.

Not believing in God has nothing to do with the restrictive nature of church. There are people who do not believe in God who are conservative and there are people who believe in God who are very liberal. So the stance of the church has nothing to do with it. You won’t ever see me in a church simply because it’s completely beyond any reach of my understanding to think any sort of higher being or power exists in or out of this world. For me at least, there is simply no way to start believing in God. It just isn’t there, it doesn’t make sense, it’s illogical. However liberal that God may be, it’s never going to change my views that the God doesn’t exist, and I’m pretty sure most atheists would feel the same way.

As for the OP, I think there are very few people who are against Jesus. Most people just don’t want other people’s beliefs pushed upon them. It saddens and sickens me when I see the guys out on the street standing and shouting to the world that we are all evil and sinners. The self - hatred they spread is such a destructive thing. That is what most non religous people are against I’d say - not Jesus himself.

This is my first visit to Nook and this post caught my attention. it’s a lively debate the old religious one and i am very intrigued by everyone’s differing opinions. i am spiritual, but not religious. like some of the other messages left, i believe that everyone makes their own reality. if you belive jesus crist is your saviour then that it will be. i strongly agree with Lord Kulganis, a lot of religions come from the same place and are founded on similar principals. still, i grapple with the idea of the one “right” religion - how could there be with such a diverse world we live in. in my group of friends we have such diverse taste in clothes, men and even food we like - so how can one expect the billions of people in the world to all subscribe to one belief system? to me it is so egocentric for churches to believe they are the right one. it’s whatever works for you.
i didn’t have to ‘turn to the lord’ to stop my life of drinking, partying and smoking. it came from a deep self respect and inner strength. altho the strength comes naturally once you’ve made the decision on what you want out of life. one last point, i don’t think churches are empowering the individual. we all have the strength of God within us but the church keeps people in a place where they don’t think for themselves, question, or discovefr the stregth from within otherwise they wouldn’t have a business to run.

I don’t think your question is right. People are not against Jesus Christ.

I think the choice of religion is a very personal thing, and if you have found the strength to stop smoking, drinking and doing drugs by becoming a follower of Jesus Christ then congratulations, I think that is great.

However; like a few of the other people on this thread, I too have a problem with the absolutes associated with most religions, and their intolerance of other religions.

So what I have gathered from this question is that people are not agaisnt Jesus Christ as the Son of the Most High God but they are against the way that religon over the many years has pushed this upon the people of the world.

As for me as I am a Born again Christian I do agree with that and I do belive that religon is man made and has destroyed the message that we were in a perfect relationship with God until satan came in and delivered a lie (as he still does) and man fell for that lie which caused man to fall from grace and true relationship with God, This is until Jesus Christ came to this earth in the form of a man lived a pure and holy life and as the son of God payed the ultimate price for sin for those who belive and live for Him.

Jesus Christ was the only one to say that He is the only way to Heaven as follows John 14:5-7 NKJ.

5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”

I do understand that people have there resevations about religion but I am not here to tell you about religion just Jesus Christ I am not a religious man but I do know my Father in heaven and I do have an interactive relationship with my saviour.

Lordkuligans wrote - i myself have been a born again Christian, and i understand the reasoning behind your beliefs, Please forgive me but I do not understand if you gave your heart totally to Jesus Christ why did you walk away? Did you commit to a church, people or to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour???

    Thank you all for reading.

people aren’t against jesus christ, society in general frowns upon those who thrust their religious belief on us! hence the reason why i cringe when i hear “born again”. do yourself a favour itsme, don’t push it!

    I am against superstition.

I am against the intrusions that peoples belief in make believe characters has on our society.

There is NO BASIS in fact or science for believing in a personal god.
If you believe that science backs up your belief in god , you have been lied to , as it is not the case.

And from debating people in forums and such it has become too apparent that religious types , dont even understand what they are argueing against.

someone stupid always brings up the eye , or thermodynamics laws , which , if they we well read , and logical thinkers , they would understand.

Evolution happenned ,just because you may not understand it does not mean that a supernatural man in the sky created it.

sure , you cant disprove gods existence but you cant disprove the unicorns , or fairies in the garden either , that doesnt mean you should believe in them , until they can be disproved.

I am an atheist when it comes to the egyptian gods.

Im atheist about the greek gods , thor , zues etc.

And I take it one god further , your god.

there are more than 700 gods that humans have believed in over time , yours is just the latest FAD.

The More educated people are the more likely they are to be free of religious mind.

Atheists live full and rich lives , more full and happy that any theist could hope for.

When an atheist looks around , he can see the wonderful development of the flaura and fauna around him , and the symbiotic world.

a religious mind only can see the world that a person has zapped into creation.

An Atheist , lives his life well for himself and his family , without an evil overlord looking to punush him for any arbitrary rule , and without catholic ball and chains of guilt.

Atheists live good lives , not because of the threat of eternal damnation , but under because life is about cherishing the here and now. there is no ever after , its a fairy tale.

Society is built by people doing good for each other and society small ( their family) and at large .

if the only reason you are being a good person is so you are not damned to hell under the threats of your god , then you are a sick sad person indeed.

the evidence for evolution is all around you , the evidence for god is one book , a badly written book at that , a book that regularly contradicts itself , a book written hundreds of years after the supposed events happened , a book that plagarises many other religious tales from before the supposed events.

the virgin birth , the resurection and many others are ideas ripped off from other religions that predate christianity by hunndreds of years.

OK , even if you are stuck in the religious mindset………. and need that crutch , think about this for aminute.

    i have 750 boxes.
in one box i have placed $1,000,000 .
you get to pick one box.

how likely is it you will pick the right one?

    likely?
    unlikely?
    extremely unlikely?

so how can you be sure , out of all the gods peoplehave worshipped, that you have the right god.?

I wonder what the REAL gods punishment for worshipping a false idol is ?

  13. 13 trevor

So you found god and gave up all the things that are bad for you after you found god.

many people give up things that are bad for them everyday , many atheists and free thinkers.

this in itself disproves your “JESUS= being able to give up bad things” theory doesnt it .

its called self control some people call it strength of character or conviction.
If you dont have that yourself , and need a fictional character to believe in , then i guess thats fair enough.

But dont try to pass it of as fact , or true , or EVEN WORSE , as supported by science.

the belief in a personal god is both irrational and illogical.

You say, “I do have an interactive relationship with my saviour”

Please look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interaction & then explain to me in what way you interact.
